Hannie - Mustard

$748.00
Size39
ColorMustard

We are so excited to introduce you to Hannie.

Our muse for this style is the fearless Jannetje Johanna Schaft, also known as "Hannie" - famous as "the girl with the red hair", a courageous Dutch resistance fighter during World War II. Despite her initial shyness, Hannie embraced her striking red hair, using it as a symbol of her strength and resilience. Much like Hannie, this Preston Zly shoe empowers you to stand out from the crowd.

Riffing on the 40s dance hall craze, our Hannie has pizzazz to spare. The sleek, curvaceous lines of this shoe are set against the bold riveting detail.

Made on our time proven Babi last with it's perfect mid heel height and a width that suits everybody, we have gone back to the era of swing music to create this beautiful silhouette.

The wedge sole gives extra height without compromising comfort and is inspired by the classic summer sandals of the post war period - where elegance and style melded playfully with function to allow women to truly feel their power.

We couldn't resist sampling her in this delicious mustard leather - these feel so good on the foot - light, buttery soft - they are a breeze to wear.

And of course, as you would expect from Preston Zly, these shoes are designed to take you to all the right places in easy, carefree chic.

FAQs

Why Preston Zly?

What makes Preston Zly shoes different?

  • 400+ 5 Star Review
  • Designed for every woman, for everywhere you want to go and every thing you want to do.
  • Designed for you to feel really comfortable in every circumstance that life brings you.
  • Comfortable on first wear, no break in periods.
  • Longevity through quality craftsmanship and timeless designRecognised by museums and publications as the best designers of shoes.
  • We use traditional and "old fashioned" shoe making construction methods because they're the best.
  • These methods are the best because they're designed to last a really long time.
  • So when you invest in a Preston Zly, you're not only choosing a shoe that looks stylish and artistic, but you're also investing in craftsmanship that is purposely chosen to last for decades with care.
  • Build a personal relationship with a modern-day shoemaker who knows your feet, knows your style and knows what you like best, so can provide recommendations for what's going to be most in line with you.
  • Continued care of your collection over time so that it truly does last you decades.

Why are Preston Zly so expensive?

They are completely handmade by master craftsman and they are designed by master craftsman with knowledge of foot anatomy. Each design is limited edition and completely unique, inspired by art movements, history and powerful women (especially our customers).

They are made to last decades with good care and are an investment into yourself.

Truthfully, for the amount of time they last, they're not expensive at all - they're actually very affordable, more than purchasing any other brands or even purchasing mass-market.

What happens if they don't fit?

If your Preston Zly don't fit:

  • We will exchange for a different size
  • We can increase the fit by half a size by stretching the front of the shoe
  • We can decrease the fit by half a size by using our specially design half insoles
  • We can do a custom order if you have really unusual feet

We will work with you to ensure you get the Perfect Fit. That is our guarantee.

"I can't wear heels anymore!"

We've got you covered with our amazing and stylish glamorous flats, if you can't wear heels.

However, we would strongly recommend that you at least try the pair of Preston Zly heels that have caught your eye because you will be pleasantly surprised by how unhigh they feel (NOT precarious and lofty).

Our heels are designed differently to any other heel that you've worn before - an example is our Deco Boot which is 9cm tall and I can walk 13,000 steps in it, in a day without any pain or issues.

Tell me about another pair of heels that you've worn, that you can do that in.

"You don't have any heels that will suit my event!"

Preston Zly have become specialists in designing flat shoes that provide you with the same amount of glamour that you would get from wearing a high heel.

You will feel more glamorous in our flats because you will be comfortable and you can't have true glamour without comfort and ease.

"I don't like the styles!"

Preston Zly's are not for everybody, they are for women with a refined taste and understanding of design. It's okay if they're not for you.

About Our Shoes

How are Preston Zly made?

Preston Zly shoes are made entirely by hand by our small team of master craftsmen in Bali. Some components are hand made by us in Melbourne and shipped to Bali for attachment to the shoes - these include but are not limited to: Coloured wedge and tread components (Trampa styles for example) and 3d printed heels which are made and attached in Melbourne.

What are the components of a Preston Zly shoe?

All Preston Zly shoes are made with a leather upper, leather lining and leather insole. On top of the insole of all of our shoes is a 4mm sponge rubber layer for extra comfort.

In between the upper and lining is a heel stiffener and toe puff - this ensures that the shoe keeps it's shape and keeps it on your foot.

Then there is a shank (a strong piece of metal attached to the insole) - which gives strength and structure to the shoe. In between the insole and sole is also a foam rubber filler to make sure there are no indentations in the sole.

The sole can be a variety of materials depending on the design but is usually leather (unless specified otherwise). Then there is a leather sock placed inside the shoes on top of the insole.

Does every Preston Zly have a hand-stitched sole?

Not all Preston Zly shoes have a hand stitched sole although this is something we do very frequently - whether or not a shoe has a hand stitched sole depends on the type of shoe - for example, if the shoe has an internal platform we are unable to hand stitch the sole if the platform is larger than 5mm.

What makes a Preston Zly a Preston Zly?

All Preston Zly's have:

  • Handmade Craftsmanship
  • Leather Upper
  • Leather Lining
  • Leather Padded Insole
  • Perfectly Balanced
  • Unique heel that is tailored to the design.

What's a last?

A last is the mould on which the upper leather of the shoe is stretched before the sole and heel is added.

The last determines the toe shape and heel height of each style. If you took a particular size in one style, it is most likely that you will take the same size in any style that is made on the same last.

You may see old wooden lasts at flea markets or used as door stops. We use plastic ones as they are easier to pull the shoes off once they are finished.

Perfect Fit Guarantee

What is the Perfect Fit Guarantee?

The Perfect Fit Guarantee ensures we will do whatever we can so that you get a pair of Preston Zly to fit you perfectly - including covering postage costs for any returns or Preston Zly swaps.

We also offer a custom fit service should our stock sizes not work for you - and if this is not suitable, a full refund - ensuring that you are not out of pocket in any way should we not be able to accommodate your feet.

What happens if the fit of my Preston Zly isn't right?

Preston Zly footwear is made to standard and accepted sizes, but we understand there is variation in our customer’s foot shape and width.

Please ensure that you check the sizing information provided for each style prior to placing your order as fit does vary from style to style and specific information in this regard is located on the product page.

Often, the simplest solution to issues with fit is to either use a half insole to reduce the size of the shoe by a half size or to give the shoes a stretch to make them a half size larger. We offer this service so please do contact us to discuss options.

If half insoles or stretching are not applicable we offer to exchange a pair of our shoes for another size in the same style and colourway. The pair to be exchanged must not be scuffed or damaged in any way (we suggest first trying them on a carpeted surface).

If we are unable to match the item(s) to be exchanged due to availability, we offer an exchange for other items to equal value, a credit to the same value to be used online or at our store, or a full refund.

Please note there is no refund on items which were bought ON SALE. In the case of sale shoes, we offer exchange or full credit only.

Should shoes need to be returned, for Australian orders we will supply a pre-paid return label – for international orders we will refund return postage.

How do I get a refund on my Preston Zly purchase?

To be eligible for a full refund, you must have gone through our entire Perfect Fit Guarantee process which is:

  • You contact us to notify your Preston Zly don't fit correctly.
  • After discussion with you, we will provide you with a recommendation for one of the following steps or a combination of:
    - Send you a different size
    - Send you half insoles to decrease the fit
    - Send you a prepaid return label to send shoes back for stretching
  • If none of these options work, we will order you a pair for a custom fit.
  • If on completion of our Perfect Fit Guarantee process, you still don't have the Perfect Fit, we will provide you with a full refund.
Getting Your First Preston Zly

How are Preston Zly's priced?

Making quality limited edition well-designed pieces is not cheap and Preston Zly's are made up of three components:

  • Materials
  • Construction (and labour)
  • Customer Care

In every aspect of these, we have spent the last 30 years refining these processes and ensuring that they are exceptional. They contribute to the price of our designs due to the quality benchmarks we have.

For further details about how we source materials, construct Preston Zly's and service our customers, continue reading.

What materials does Preston Zly use?

Every Preston Zly has a full leather lining as well and most Preston Zly's also feature a full leather sole.

Every Preston Zly has full grain leather insoles (which is very rare these days in shoe making). Most shoe brands are using a cardboard type material, but we use full leather insoles because they allow your foot to breathe, they are more durable and they are more comfortable.

Put simply, they're just better - and that's why we use them.

We use the finest quality leathers that we can source and this quality is reflected in the price of our designs.

How are Preston Zly's made?

We do not manufacture in locations with poor working conditions for their workers. We are heavily involved in making sure our workers are paid well and have good working conditions.

Every Preston Zly is handmade by a master craftsperson, and that can require up to 22 hours of thoughtful construction.

A Preston Zly is not a shoe that was stitched together by a machine, it's a work of art that our trained master craftspeople obsess over until it's ready for you.

How does Preston Zly care for their customers?

Even though many of our sales are now online, Johanna is heavily invested in your and her personal relationship:

  • She will check to confirm sizing if there are likely to be any issues with fit.
  • She will offer fit and style advice to ensure you make the best decision.
  • She will work with you to ensure you get the Perfect Fit with your Preston Zly.
  • She defends the decision to maintain free international express shipping, keeping your additional costs low out side of the investment in your Preston Zly.
  • She will work with you to ensure your Preston Zly's last decades with the After Care service.

All this is part of the pricing of Preston Zly.

"It just seems like a lot of money for a pair of shoes."

In the 60's, a good well-made pair of shoes was equivalent to a week's pay, because back then they were properly constructed by master craftspeople and they were an investment you made and wore for years.

When you calculate the cost per wear of your Preston Zly over decades, it ends up being less than 25 cents per wear.

Comparitively, buying a $150 pair of shoes that lasts only 6 months when worn daily, is 83 cents per wear and you have to buy another pair of shoes every 6 months.

There's a classic old saying - 'I'm too poor to afford cheap shoes'. Cheap shoes don't last so you have to replace them often and they are not designed with foot anatomy in mind so you suffer not just financially, but also in comfort.

What if I cannot find my size?

We can accommodate our customers requiring footwear sizes outside our standard range, either extra large or small.

Styles in colour ways available on this site only can be ordered in special sizes. This service will take approximately 6 – 8 weeks as the item will be specially made. Prices remain the same as specified on the site for ready-made items.

Please note this service does not apply to our Vintage range.

Please contact us at enquiry@prestonzlydesign.com to arrange this service.

What if the style I want is no longer available in my size?

If you cannot find the size you want in the colour ways offered, we can arrange a special order for you. Simply contact us on enquiry@prestonzlydesign.com.

Please note this service does not apply to our Vintage range.

Taking Care Of Your Preston Zly

I have some older Preston Zly shoes that need some TLC - what do you recommend?

We offer an After Care service for Preston Zly shoes - so if you have a much loved pair that is looking a little "down at heel" bring them in to us for an assessment.

Occasionally, we come across the odd pair that is beyond repair but more often than not we can give your old shoes a new lease on life and bring them back to great condition - this is the beauty of well made slow fashion. Prices for this vary depending on what we need to do!

How much will it cost for a renovation of an old pair of Preston Zlys?

This will depend on how much work needs to be done.

Contact us on enquiry@prestonzlydesign.com with pictures of the shoes for a quote.
